When you describe a business in detail, there can be a lot of information, and often only parts of the information are important to understand the context. Then you can choose to use layers to control
how the information in a model is displayed to the user. The inventory function in 2c8 Apps can be useful both in the tool and in the published material.
By placing different types of objects in layers, you can then choose how this layer, and thus the objects included in the layer, should be displayed. Stock settings are made per model type, which means that different models can contain different stocks.
Add new layer
In 2c8 Apps, by default, there are different layers in different model types.
Start by clicking on "Layers" in the left panel. You will then get a list of existing stocks for the model type or model that you are currently displaying. This means that if you have a process model open in the tool (as you are currently showing), you now see all the layers that are available for process models in your repository. In the image below we are currently showing a process model and can then see in the left panel all the layers in for this model type:
To add a new layer, click the "plus".
Here you name your new layer, choose an icon for the layer, and choose which objects should be included in the layer. Then click "OK".
When you click "OK", you get the following box:
If you select "Yes" in this dialog, this layer rule will be applied to all models of the model type you are currently displaying (in this example, process models). This means that all requirement objects (which we have chosen in this example) that exist, or will exist, in process models are automatically placed in this layer. We then get a box that shows the number of objects that have been moved to or from the layer.
If you choose "No", then no objects will be automatically placed in this layer, you have to do it manually.
Add items to layer
If you have chosen not to apply the layer rules for the model type in the repository, or if for some other reason you need to add an object to a layer manually, you can do so by right-clicking on the object. Then select "Move to layer" and click on the layer you want to move the object to.
Show/hide layers in the tool
By clicking the eye next to the layer in the left panel, you can choose to show, hide or make objects in a layer transparent. In this way, you can minimize the amount of information when working in your models.
Stock in publication
In the published material, you can use the layers you created to decide what the end users should see and what they should not be able to see. These settings are made in the web profile by editing "Functions".
Click the edit pen next to "Layers" to edit layer settings.
Here you can now choose which layers you want to include, which you want to show by default and which you want to allow to hide.
"Include layers" - If this box is not checked, the objects included in this layer will not appear in the published material. This can be useful, for example, when you have many notes in your models that should not be visible to the end users.
"Show by default" - If this box is not checked, the objects in this layer will not automatically appear in the publication. So the end users have to actively click on the layer icon in the publication to see these objects.
"Allow Hiding" - If this box is checked, end users will have the ability to hide the objects included in the inventory in the publication.
