Why does my publishing fail?

When publishing is failing, it can depend on multiple different reasons. Start with considering whether you have published to the destination before or if it's a new publishing destination that you have not used before. Below we are listing the most common issues why publishing fails.

Settings for the publishing destination are not correct 

The last step when publishing is to pick the destination where to publish ("Tools", "Publish", "Next"). Here either an administrator or you have added a publishing destination. Uploading to the publishing destination can either be done via FTP or file copy. If the credentials you have entered when adding the publishing destination are incorrect 2c8 Modeling Tool will fail to upload the files to the destination. If this is the first time using the publishing destination you should start by checking if the credentials you have entered via 2c8 Modeling Tool or 2c8 Portal are correct. If you are using FTP you can use the button "Test connection" when editing the publishing destination.

Bad internet connection

If the publishing fails it could be because you have lost your internet connection during the publishing process.

Missing write permissions for the destination

The publishing will fail if you are missing write permissions for the location of the publishing destination. For example, if you are trying to publish to a shared drive (D:, F: etc) where you do not have write permissions the publishing will not succeed. Try if this is the case by navigating to the drive in your Windows file explorer (the yellow folder on your computer) and try to add a file there (for example a text document). If you get an error message that you are missing permissions that's what's causing the error. Reach out to your IT to help you solve the issue.
