AD connector and SSO are two features that share the commonality of communicating with your Active Directory (AD). However, these features have two completely different purposes and methods for activation. They can be used individually or together.
SSO - Single Sign-on
SSO is a feature that allows users to log in to 2c8 using their "computer account." This means that you, as a user, do not need to remember a separate password for 2c8.
With SSO activated, your AD is responsible for verifying the user during login to 2c8. This also means that if you have multi-factor authentication enabled in your AD, it will also apply to logging into 2c8.
More information on how to activate SSO can be found here
AD-connector

AD-connector
AD Connector is a feature that allows users in the portal to be automatically created, modified, or deleted based on one or more groups in your AD. This means less manual administration in the portal for organizations with many users.
Technically, the AD Connector is an application installed on a server in your IT environment. It is configured to read users and groups from your AD and then create/modify/delete them in the portal.
Installing and configuring the AD Connector requires a greater commitment from both you and us compared to SSO. The installation and configuration are carried out via a Teams meeting between your IT team and us at 2c8. More information about the required preparations and booking the installation can be found here
