If you want to know what else is new in 2025.1 |
The article explains how in version 2025.1 of the 2c8 Modeling Tool, you can use the color profile to visualize objects with different colors based on field values. The function makes it possible to more clearly distinguish types of information, status or properties within the same object type, which facilitates communication and analysis in models. The article describes step by step how the user creates their own fields, connects them to color profiles and defines visual conditions.
What is conditional based color profile?
- Previously, it was only possible to set one default color per object type.
Starting with version 2025.1, it is possible to set different default colors for the same object type based on field values.
A custom color profile for objects is a way to clearly mark different types of information or states in the models. This can involve differentiating between process levels, types of systems, requirements, or whether an activity is value-added or not. By assigning specific colors to different aspects, a clearer overview and easier communication are created, especially in complex organizations or system mappings.
How is a conditional based color profile created?
To create a custom color profile in 2c8 that is based on business-specific data, you combine color profiles with custom fields.
Step 1: Create custom fields.
Go to Explorer > Descriptions and Fields.

If you want to know more about how fields are created, you can read this article: https://support.2c8.com/hc/en-gb/articles/5138611781533-How-do-I-add-description-tabs-and-fields |
Create a new field with type based on needs:
Drop down (ex. Internal/External requirements)
Drop down (e.g. Process type: Management/Core process/ Support process)
Step 2: Create/change a colorprofile.
If you already have a color profile, you don't need to create a new one.

If you want to know more about how to create a color profile, you can read this article: |
Go to Tools > Color Profiles.
Click on the object you want to have more different colors and on which you have created fields. Click on the pencil in the lower right corner.
Click on add filter.
Click on the pencil for the new filter and give it a name.
Click on new filter and select the field associated with the object and select one of the options that you want to be able to set a color for. Repeat until you have created a filter for all options. Click on Save.
In the bottom corner you can choose which of the filters you want to change the color for.
Click Ok when you are finished.
You have now added conditions for different colors on objects.
The colors will automatically change when objects have their fields filled in and the color profile is active.
Suggested areas of use.
- Strategic management: Clarify the division of responsibilities with color based on organizational level.
- Efficiency analysis: Highlight waste and improvement potential with colors for value.
- System overview: Use color coding for internal/external operations in IT analysis.
- Requirements management: Color code internal and external requirements to quickly distinguish where the requirement comes from.
- Change management: Use colors to prioritize which activities/processes should be improved.
