In 2c8, we have the option of applying our own images to the objects in the models, this can be used, among other things, to create more graphically appealing start pages.
Examples of start pages
Our starting models usually look like the following, a main process map with access to our management, main and support processes as well as to other operational perspectives.
To get a less complex model, we can instead design the start page with the help of images, in the example below we see images that visualize the entrance to our management, main and support processes as well as the organizational structure. We can of course decide for ourselves which images we want to use and what models the images will have a breakdown to.
Create new start page with images
To create a start page with images, the recommendation is to create a new general model. Lay out the objects with 2c8's standard objects that correspond to the images you want, i.e. process objects for the processes you want to create a breakdown to or organization objects if you want to create a breakdown to your organization models and so on.
To change the appearance of an object, right-click on it and select Image.
You can choose to either use images from 2c8's icon library or upload your own image. To import your own image, click on the plus sign and scroll to the desired image. You can also drag the image into the marked area.
The image is imported in its original size. We can always change the size once it is imported, but to avoid the image being perceived as compressed or stretched, it is recommended that the image is saved in the desired size before it is imported into 2c8. If you are unsure whether the images you have chosen will fit in the web window without having to scroll, you can under the gear wheel in the tool panel switch on Support lines and select for Web 1280 or Web 1600.
When the desired image is selected, the object's appearance will change and be replaced with the image. Note that the object will still have the same properties as it had before, i.e. if there are description texts, documents, fields or if the object is decomposed, those properties will remain. Adding a picture to the object does not affect its properties, and if the object is in several models, only the appearance in the model you are in changes.
Hide icons on the objects with images
You can choose for yourself whether you want to show the icons for properties or breakdowns on the object in published mode or not. If you do not wish the icons to be visible on the images, this can be set in the web profile. Do this to exclude the icons; open the web profile and hover over the model surface and click Edit.
Create a model filter to only change the settings for the general model that is your intended home page. You do this by clicking on the editing pen. Click on Add filter and name the model, in this case Home page. Then select New filter / In selected models and tick the model. Once the filter is created, tap Save.
Filters can be used in several places in the web profile, so it is a function to control that changes made only affect parts of the object set or the models. Read more about filters in the web profile here.
We can now in the model surface editor change the settings for this specific model and its objects. Change to the newly created filter via the dropdown menu. Then choose whether to display the breakdown icon and info icon for these images by dragging the sliders under Item Settings. Turn on the Follow link on click on item setting. Here we set the object to Follow decomposition when clicking on the object, that is, the underlying model should open when we click on the image, provided the object has a decomposition. When desired changes are made, press Save.
Provided that the new start page is set as the start model in the web profile and that you have made a new publication, it will be the new start page with images that you are greeted with when you open the publication.
